Sedwick sale 9, lot 391

This type was struck at Medellin and Bogotá 1919-20. It and the accompanying five and ten pesos replaced the "minero" type issued 1913-19. The Medellin issues are mintmarked "A". This specimen was lot 391 in Sedwick sale 9 (Fort Lauderdale, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $414. The catalog description[1] noted, "Medellin, Colombia, 2-1/2 pesos, 1920-A (Antioquia), encapsulated NGC MS-63. Lustrous and practically perfect, but with odd, slight bulge in metal above the condor. Dr. Frank Sedwick collection of Colombian Republic gold coins."

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, .117 troy oz AGW (same standard as half a British sovereign).
