This type was struck at Medellin and Bogotá 1919-24. It and the accompanying 2½ and ten pesos replaced the "minero" type issued 1913-19. The Medellin issues are mintmarked "A". This specimen was lot 401 in Sedwick sale 9 (Fort Lauderdale, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $546.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogotá, Colombia, 5 pesos, 1920-B, encapsulated NGC MS-62. Bagmarked but beautifully lustrous, finest known specimen graded by NGC. Dr. Frank Sedwick collection of Colombian Republic gold coins."
Recorded mintage: 108,000.
Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW (same standard as the British sovereign).
