Colombia 1880-P 5 decimos
This specimen was lot 40165 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, August 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 5 Decimos, 1880-POPAYAN. Popayan Mint. PCGS VF-35. Restrepo cites only five known examples of this date, with PCGS listing just one graded finer (at VF-20). Presenting only the even wear one would expect from the assigned grade, the coin retains satisfying clarity and an aged olive-tinted surface. A RARE specimen that does not appear much in public auctions and should see much bidding." While Colombian half dollars are common as a class, even in uncirculated, this is a very rare date. Popayán struck fifty centavos in 1880 and five décimos are listed for 1869-74, 1878 and 1880; none are common. Most survivors are in poor condition.
Recorded mintage: unknown; two known per the SCWC.
Specification: 12.5 g, 0.835 fine silver, 30.8 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-153.6; Restrepo-295.8.
