Colombia 1880-P 1/4 decimo

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, part of lot 44380

This specimen was lot 44380 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $90. The catalog description^[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1/4 Decimo, 1880. Popayan Mint. AU-55 (PCGS). Small date variety. Fairly well centered and struck with medium gray toning. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This is from a type struck 1868-81 with reduced silver fineness from the Popayán mint. The Bogotá mint also struck quarter décimos 1863-73 but switched to 2½ centavos for 1872-81.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
