Colombia 1878-P 5 decimos
This specimen was lot 42036 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1878-P 5 Decimos. Popayán mint. VF-25 (PCGS). Another highly elusive Popayán issue, this one in remarkable grade for the series. Attractive light silver gray with some darker toning around the peripheries. Crudely struck, with a fissure or wrinkle through UNIDOS and some granularity seen at the central obverse. Aside from some minor hairlines, no major issues are seen. An extremely challenging issue from this avidly collected series. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This is a late date of this type struck at Popayán 1869-71, 1873-74, 1878, 1880. Five décimos were also struck at Medellin and Bogotá.
