Sedwick sale 9, lot 209

This type was struck 1823-36 at Popayán. It is common. This specimen was lot 209 in Sedwick sale 9 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $1,610. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Popayán, Colombia, 1 escudo, 1823FM, encapsulated NGC MS-62. Highly lustrous, very flashy, and nicely struck except for small part of rim. Finest known specimen graded by NGC. Stack's 3/88. Dr. Frank Sedwick collection of Colombian Republic gold coins."
