This specimen was lot 20750 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1810-JF Popayán, XF45 NGC, quite attractive with light toning and noticeable luster. From the Don Benito Collection of Hispanic Gold." Altho Ferdinand VII's name was used on the obverse legend, it is the bust of Charles IV which appears. This was typical for all of Colombia's coinage in the last years of the colonial era. Assayer JF is recorded for 1792-1816. Overdates abound, including an 1810/09.
