Colombia 1810-NR JJ real
This specimen was lot 1129 in Sedwick sale 34 (Winter Park, FL, November 2023), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogota, Colombia, bust 1 real, Ferdinand VII (bust of Charles IV), 1810 J.J, rare assayer, NGC VF details / cleaned. Deeply toned at slightly crude rims, the interiors well detailed and overly prominent from removal of toning, by grade alone technically finer than the only other two at NGC in VG or lower, not to be confused with the non-rare J.F assayer for this date and mint. Pedigreed to the Gregorio Toulemonde Collection (stated on label)." This type was struck for Ferdinand VII 1810-19 using the bust of the abdicated Charles IV. It is somewhat scarce but the 1810-NR JJ is rare; this example realized three times the catalog value.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.896 fine silver.
