This specimen was lot 3421 in Goldberg sale 90 (Los Angeles, January 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Colombia. 8 Escudos, 1810-NR JF. Ferdinand VII. Official uniformed bust right. Reverse: Crowned Hapsburg arms within chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece. blazing original mint luster. Rare this nice. Tied for finest graded. NGC graded MS-63." Altho Ferdinand VII's name was used on the obverse legend, it is the bust of Charles IV which appears. This was typical for all of Colombia's coinage in the last years of the colonial era. Assayer JF is recorded for 1792-1816. Overdates abound, including an 1810/09.
