Colombia 1727-SF S 2 escudos
This specimen was lot 44071 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Cob 2 Escudos, 1727/6-SF S. Bogota Mint. Philip V. PCGS AU-53. Featuring a very clear final two digits of the date, including the noted '7' over a terminal '6', this lightly circulated minor gold denomination offers a great appearance, with clear central devices upon each side. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection. Ex: Sedwick 10 (10/2011) Lot # 63." This type was issued from Bogotá 1717-46. Specimens with legible dates are worth double those without. The early dates come without a mintmark or assayer initials. Many have been made into jewelry and sold as "pirate gold."
