This specimen was lot 56 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $5,100. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Bogotá, gold cob 2 escudos, Philip IV, 1644/3, assayer R below denomination II to left, mintmark NR to right, unique, NGC AU details / removed from jewelry. Very broad flan with exceptionally full shield and cross-and-tressure, full II-R to left and N•R• to right, nearly full crown and king's name with bold full ordinal IIII, plus bold but messy 44 of date with the last digit offset-punched over a 3 (first we have seen or heard of), spotty red toning all over with slight discoloration on part of edge." The SCWC notes this type for 1628-55 with known dates of 1633-36, 1651-55. Most survivors lack legible dates and therefore many dates are not listed altho the Santa Fé mint probably operated continuously during that period.
