China G103-2884r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2884 in Goldberg sale 103 (Los Angeles, February 2018), where it sold for $199.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "China. 50 Yuan, 2015. 5 ounce silver. Panda. With original case and certificate. Early Releases. NGC graded Proof 69 Ultra Cameo." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. The gold panda is one of the most popular. The one ounce panda was raised from 100 yuan to 500 yuan in 2000 and reduced in weight from 31.1 g to 30 g in 2016. The silver fifty yuan, formerly five ounces, is now 150 grams. The SCWC has not updated its listings of pandas since 2012.

Recorded mintage: 50,000.

Specification: 155.55 g, 0.999 fine silver, 70 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-2205.
