The specimen shown is a type struck in Chile 1975-76 only. It is the first issue of this denomination but was soon converted to aluminum (KM 204a). It is worthless in all grades. Oscar Roty's defiant condor appears on the obverse. The escudo superseded the peso in 1960, with one escudo = 1000 pesos. The escudo itself was abandoned in 1975 for a return to the peso, with 1 new peso = 100 escudos.
Recorded mintage: 5,400,000 for 1975-76.
Specification: 3.95 g, aluminum bronze, 21.6 mm diameter.
