The specimen shown is a type struck in Chile 1975-76 only. It is the first issue of this denomination and was struck 1975-77 then converted to aluminum bronze. It is worthless in all grades. Oscar Roty's defiant condor appears on the obverse. The escudo superseded the peso in 1960, with one escudo = 1000 pesos. The escudo itself was abandoned in 1975 for a return to the peso, with 1 new peso = 100 escudos.
