The first specimen was lot 23421 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $646.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 10 Pesos 1895, MS66 NGC, a choice original example with full mint brilliance and soft toning. Very scarce in this elite quality." This gold ten pesos piece was minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1895-96. This issue weighed only 40% of the earlier ten pesos minted 1851-73 (KM 145). A similar design was used on the gold five pesos (KM 153).
