This specimen was lot 73742 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 10 Pesos, 1892-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS MS-62. Attractive yellow gold color on reflective surfaces. Scattered marks commensurate with the grade. Rare." This type was struck regularly 1867-92 but only a few dates turn up with any frequency. This is not one of them and this example realized nearly triple the catalog value. The subsequent issue (KM 154) weighed only 40% of this type.
