Chile 1892 decimo
This specimen was lot 73747 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. Decimo, 1892/82-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS MS-64. A lovely near-Gem with much frostiness and originality preserved. Scarcely a hint of contact is evident and a pleasing warm gray tint encompasses both sides of the coin." This type was struck in this 0.500 alloy 1879-94 and is common in circulated condition. Numerous varieties exist for the date (1892/0, 1892/82 and 1892/82/1 are noted and more may exist). The "normal" date is priced higher than the overdate.
