Chile 1895 centavo

Stack's Bowers 2026 ANA sale, lot 43245

This copper centavo was minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1878-98. It superseded a copper-nickel type of 1870-77 (KM 146) which is much scarcer. The type is not rare but uncirculated specimens are few. The second specimen was lot 43245 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $561.20. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CHILE. Mint Error -- Double Struck, 2nd Strike 75% Off Center -- Centavo, 1895-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS AU-55."

Recorded mintage: 449,000.
