This type was struck 1871-73 in Santiago, Chile. It is not rare but seldom seen in collectible condition. It was converted to copper (KM 148a) for 1883-94, after which the denomination was suspended. An overdate, 1872/1, is reported for the year.
Recorded mintage: 506,000.
Specification: 5 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter.
