This specimen was lot 45605 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $125. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 1/2 Centavo, 1871-So. Santiago Mint. NGC MS-64." This type was struck 1871-73 while copper-nickel was still new as a coinage alloy. It is very scarce in nice condition. It was superseded by a copper type (KM 148a) that was probably cheaper to produce if less corrosion-resistant.
