Stack's Bowers 2020 ANA sale, lot 21113
SB820-21113r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21113 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 10 Peso, 1870-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. Mintage: 75,000. A nicely preserved survivor of the type exhibiting bold devices and smooth satiny surfaces though a thin veneer of tone somewhat mutes the luster. Light signs of handling consistent for the grade prevent a higher numeric designation hardly distracting from its original looking appearance. A pleasing high grade example certain to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters." This specimen was one of a series struck 1867-92 in Santiago, Chile. Two earlier types exist (KM 123 and KM 131), dated 1851-67, with slightly different designs for the arms and the standing Liberty. Similar designs were used on the gold one, two and five pesos.

Recorded mintage: 76,000.

Specification: 15.253 g, 0.900 fine gold, .441 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-45; KM-145.
