This specimen was lot 23328 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $15,275. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1832 So-I, MS64 NGC. Gorgeous blue and orange toning throughout. The incomplete punch for the sunface on the obverse and some trivial adjustment marks on the reverse pale in comparison to the stunning eye appeal of this specimen. Very rare in this select quality. Ex. Eliasberg collection (ANR 4/2005, lot 1377). From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation." This type was struck 1818-34 in moderate quantities but increased demand has made this coin expensive.
