This specimen was lot 71220 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $1,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 8 Escudos, 1827-So I. Santiago Mint. Republic. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, AU Details Gold Shield. One of the keys to the series, this piece does exhibit some light tooling as mentioned in the details description, but nevertheless remains an excellent example of this rather RARE date." This type was struck 1818-34 in moderate quantities but increased collector demand has made this coin expensive, even in low grade.
