SB1025-74045r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74045 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 1/2 Real, 1786/5-So DA. Santiago Mint. Charles III. PCGS FINE-12. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck in moderate numbers 1773-89 and this is a higher mintage date. Even so, the few survivors are generally in poor condition. The SCWC does not mention the overdate shown here. This example realized nearly triple the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 125,000.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.896 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Cayón-11216, KM-28; Cal-298.
