Stack's Bowers October 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74044

This specimen was lot 74044 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 1/2 Real, 1785/4-So DA. Santiago Mint. Charles III. PCGS VF-30. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck in moderate numbers 1773-89 and this is a higher mintage date. Even so, the few survivors are generally in poor condition. This example realized over five times the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 80,000 including the overdate.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.896 fine silver.
