This specimen was lot 71409 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 4 Reales, 1782-So DA. Santiago Mint. Charles III. PCGS VG-08. The only certified example at either PCGS or NGC of this RARE low mintage date. While the present example is heavily circulated, it retains clearly identifiable legends and devices on its problem-free surfaces. The coin is deeply toned with a pleasing mottled vermilion hue. An exciting opportunity for a collector to acquire this challenging date from the Santiago mint. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type was issued from Santiago 1775-89 and is rare. This specimen was lot 866 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $2,640.
