This specimen was lot 647 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 1,900 € (about US$2,870 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,
"Carlos III (1759-1788). 1779. Golpecitos. Santiago. DA. 8 escudos. MBC. (Eight escudos of 1779, Santiago mint. Edge bumps, very fine.)"
This type was struck at Santiago 1772-89 and tho expensive, is not rare like prior types. Overdates abound.
Recorded mintage: 44,000.
