This specimen was lot 865 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE, Santiago, bust 4 reales, Charles III, 1779/8 DA, extremely rare, NGC F 15 (Colección Val y Mexía Label), finest and only example in NGC census. Very Rare. Mintage for the year 1778 = 15,000 and for the year 1779 = 10,000 pieces. Deeply rainbow toned over worn but lustrous surfaces, somewhat crude (as made) at rims, but most important feature is the overdate, which shows a clear top angle of a 7 inside the 9 but also the curve of an 8 at bottom left (not mentioned on the label), unlisted in any case and possibly unique. Pedigreed to the Val y Mexía Collection." This type was issued from Santiago 1775-89 and is rare.
