This specimen was lot 72262 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "CEYLON. 50 Cents, 1922. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. Tied with just two other examples for the finest in the PCGS census, this delightful near Gem offers tremendous radiance and luster, along with a minimum of light contact marks." This type was struck 1919-29. The prior type was 0.800 fine silver. Ceylon, famous for tea, attained its independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka.
