Unlike Angola and Mozambique, Cape Verde obtained its independence in 1975 with little bloodshed. Since independence, Cape Verde has been ruled by the same political party which controls Guinea-Bissau on the mainland; they are de facto united. This type was struck in 1977, 1980 and 1982 as part of the F.A.O. series. Issues of this denomination (KM 28, 31, 36) after 1994 have been struck in nickel-plated steel.
