This specimen was part of lot 50363 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $260. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 50 Cents, 1911. NGC VF-35." The year 1911 inaugurated the coinage of George V. The new issues were introduced without the "DEI GRA" legend on the obverse. After a public outcry (doubtless puffed up by attention-hungry politicians and newspaper editors), the legend was restored in 1912, rendering this a one-year type. It is rather scarce.

Recorded mintage: 209,972.

Specification: 11.62 g, 0.925 fine silver, 29.7 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-19.
