Canada 1910 50 cents
The first specimen was lot 22358 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 50 Cents, 1910. Ottawa Mint. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. The catalog description[1] noted, "Edwardian leaves" variety. Struck with a modified reverse die, whereby the leaves differ slightly from those used on Victorian and all previous Edwardian issues, this represents a fairly SCARCE type. Lightly handled and alluringly toned." The second specimen was lot 70449 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[2] noted, "CANADA. 50 Cents, 1910. Ottawa Mint. PCGS EF-45 Gold Shield. Victorian Leaves variety. A handsome circulated example of this final Edward VII 1/2 Crown." This type is notoriously difficult to find in nice condition despite being minted in respectable numbers 1902-10. This date is more available with the Edwardian leaves reverse than the Victorian leaves reverse.
