Canada 1911 5 cents
Canada issued silver five cent pieces 1858-1921. In 1920, the coin was debased from .925 to 0.800 fine, then in 1921 it was converted to a nickel piece very similar to the U. S. five cent coin. This specimen was lot 70334 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 5 Cents, 1911. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder. One year type without "DEI GRATIA", lots of red and blue toning with a nice cartwheel effect. Clearly an example that sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed. Quite attractive with great eye appeal. Ex: Bowers & Merena, March 1990, lot 5151 (tag included)." This date is common but obtains a slight premium because it is a one year type.
Recorded mintage: 3,692,350.
Specification: 1.16 grams, 0.925 fine silver, reeded edge.
