Canada 1898 50 cents

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70186

This specimen was lot 70186 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $288. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CANADA. 50 Cents, 1898. London Mint. Victoria. NGC VF-30. Moderate gray toned with lighter raised surfaces. A perfect example for the grade." This type is notoriously difficult to find in nice condition despite being minted in respectable numbers 1870-1901. This date is scarce above Fine.

Recorded mintage: 100,000, a better date.

Specification: 11.66 g, 0.925 fine silver, .345 troy oz ASW.
