Canada (1837-38) sou token KM-Tn5
This specimen was part of lot 29392 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), which sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lower Canada. Group of Five Bouquet Sou Tokens ND, ...2) Unc, ...From the Doug Robins Collection of Canadian Tokens." The second specimen was lot 55628 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[2] noted, "CANADA. Lower Canada. Montreal. Agriculture & Commerce Copper Sou Token, ND (ca. 1836). Belleville (New Jersey) Mint. PCGS MS-62 Brown." The SCWC notes that the Bank of Montreal, the Banque du Peuple and City Bank were granted the right to issue halfpenny and penny tokens, which right was exercised 1837-39, 1842-45 and 1852. However, when official provincial coinage was issued in 1858, decimal coinage similar to United States coins was chosen.
