This specimen was lot 29441 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lower Canada. Quebec Bank. Bronzed Specimen "Habitant" Penny 1837 PR64 Brown NGC. Medal alignment, strong ground, period after CANADA. From the Doug Robins Collection of Canadian Tokens." The SCWC notes that the Bank of Montreal, the Banque du Peuple and City Bank were granted the right to issue halfpenny and penny tokens, which right was exercised 1837-39, 1842-45 and 1852. However, when official provincial coinage was issued in 1858, decimal coinage similar to United States coins was chosen.
