This specimen was lot 5579 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €700 (about US$974 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Wilhelm, 1831-1884. Taler 1853, B. Prachtexemplar. Kräftige Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, William, 1831-84, thaler of 1853, choice example, strong toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1853-55 to the Prussian standard (22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver). Subsequent issues were vereinsthalers.
