Künker Auction 425, lot 2124

This specimen was lot 2124 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$2,124 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM Wilhelm, 1831-1884. Taler 1850 CvC. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, William, 1831-84. Very scarce date, handsome patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This is a scarce date of a fairly common type struck 1839-42, 1848 and 1850 to the Prussian standard (22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, fourteen pieces to the mark). Issues after 1855 were vereinsthalers.
