Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73260

This specimen was lot 73260 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 12 Mariengroschen, 1760-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I. PCGS MS-61. Mostly steely gray and flashy, this Mint State example retains excellent originality and eye appeal, even offering some hints of champagne nearer the peripheries. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This denomination was one-third of a thaler or one half gulden. This type was struck 1735-80 and is common. Mintmaster IBH appears 1739-62.
