Künker sale 293, lot 572

This specimen was lot 572 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €80 (about US$108 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Karl I. 1735-1780. 24 Mariengroschen 1742, Zellerfeld. Kl. Prägeschwäche, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles I, 1735-80, 24 mariengroschen of 1742, Zellerfeld mint. Slightly weak strike, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1735-80 and is common. The concurrent "leaping stallion" gulden of the same weight was the 24 mariengroschen (KM 895) or two-thirds thaler.
