This specimen was lot 630 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $11,750. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. 2 Taler, 1686-RB. NGC MS-64. Rudolf August (1666-1704). Sharply struck toned and very attractive. Finest graded by NGC." Like most double thalers, this one year type is rare.
