Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1605 1/2 thaler KM-9
This specimen was lot 4146 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €605 (about US$794 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBUTTEL, Heinrich Julius, 1589-1613. 1/2 Reichstaler 1605, Andreasberg. Ausbeute der Grube St. Andreas. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Henry Julius, 1589-1613, half thaler of 1605, Andreasberg mint, for the St. Andrew mine. Handsome patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This half thaler, with St. Andrew on the reverse, was struck 1601-05. While it is not rare, it is triple the price of a "wild man" half thaler such as KM 22.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 14,31 g.
Catalog reference: KM 9; Müseler Nachtrag 10.2/28 c; Welter 652.
