Künker Auction 441, lot 4108

The second specimen was lot 4108 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,238 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM Heinrich Julius, 1589-1613. 1/2 Reichstaler 1599, Andreasberg. Ausbeute der Grube St. Andreas. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. Exemplar der Sammlung Dr. Friedrich-Karl Günther. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Henry Julius, 1589-1613, half thaler of 1599, Andreasberg mint, for the St. Andrew mine. Handsome patina, very fine.)"

This half thaler was struck 1597-99 to honor the silver miners busy creating wealth for the duke. It is rather scarce and only comes with a two digit date as shown here. Another half thaler (KM MB265) has the wild man reverse.
