Goslar Mint. Heinrich Julius. PCGS AU-53. A pleasing and rather elegant one-year type, this emission features the wildman standing within a fancy border, or a tressure of arches with inward-facing lis. Lightly handled and very well struck for the type, with excellent detail on the wildman himself and with a great cabinet tone spread throughout. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This "truth" thaler was struck 1598 only and is common. Several other thalers (Dav-9075, -9077, -9078, -9080, -9081, -9083, -9084, -9085, -9086, -9091) have this nickname. The cross of Lorraine mintmark (found to the right of the bottom of the shield) refers to Andreas, mintmaster 1570-99. Andreasberg was the only other mint coining for the duke at this time.
