This specimen was lot 1344 in Goldberg Sale 146 (Los Angeles, July 2025), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Brunswick-Lüneburg-Celle. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1691-JJJ. KM-345.1. Georg Wilhelm, 1665-1705. Leaping horse, date below. Pop 1; The only one graded at PCGS. PCGS graded EF-40. The Augustana Collection." This type was struck 1690-91 and is the last issue of this denomination from this state. It is not KM 345.1 as catalogued by the auctioneers but KM 330. A similar 24 mariengroschen exists (KM 293) with the value inside a wreath. The last gulden was struck in 1697 (KM 346.2). Brunswick-Lüneburg-Celle lapsed in 1705 on the death of the last duke and was merged with Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover. Here is our summary of the gulden of this ruler:

  • KM 331/Dav-367: value obverse, stallion reverse, struck 1690 only.
  • KM 330/Dav-368, -369, -370, 371: 24 mariengroschen, struck 1674-77, 1690-91.
  • KM 347.1/Dav-372: 16 gute groschen, struck 1693-94, 1698.
  • Dav-373: Ernest Augustus, bishop of Osnabruck, struck 1685-88.
