The first specimen was lot 1170 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$597 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, Herzogtum, Johann Friedrich, 1665-1679 Taler 1665. Clausthal. Gutes sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, John Frederick (1665-79), thaler of 1665, Clausthal mint, good very fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 932 in Jean Elsen sale 165 (Brussels, June 2026), where it sold for €220 (about US$303 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, BRUNSWICK-CALENBERG, Johann Friedrich (1665-1679), AR Taler, 1666 HS, Zellerfeld. D/ Écu surmonté de cinq heaumes. R/ Cheval cabré à g., dans une couronne. Très Beau. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, John Frederick, 1665-79, silver thaler of 1666, Zellerfeld mint. Obverse: five-helmeted arms; reverse: a stallion rears up inside a wreath. Very Fine.)"

Christian Ludwig was duke in Calenberg 1641-48 and in Celle 1648-65. His younger brother Georg Wilhelm was duke in Calenberg 1648-65 and in Celle 1665-1705. The last brother, Ernst August, was duke in Calenberg 1679-98 and elector of Hannover 1692-98. Ernst August's son George inherited Calenberg and Hannover in 1698, Celle in 1705 and the throne of Great Britain in 1714. This type is listed for 1665-73 along with KM 47.4/Dav-6517B, KM 57.2/Dav-6529, KM 79/Dav-6535, KM 88/Dav-6536 and KM 89/Dav-6544. The SCWC states this type is fairly common. It seems to be the first "leaping stallion" thaler from this locale.
