Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71101
Br Honduras SB1019-71101r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71101 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH HONDURAS. Cent, 1918. NGC MS-63 Brown. A choice example, offering deep brown surfaces with some underlying brilliance." This type was struck 1914-19, 1924-26 and 1936 and is rather scarce, especially in nice condition. The only other issue for British Honduras in 1918 was a copper-nickel five cents (KM 16) and silver ten cents (KM 20). The country, long claimed by Guatemala, is now known as Belize. The issues of British Honduras are marked by their dull design; the reverse on this coin was used during the reigns of queen Victoria, kings Edward VII, George V, George VI and later queen Elizabeth II.

Recorded mintage: 40,000.

Specification: bronze.

Catalog reference: KM-19.
