Stack's Bowers May 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71214
SB523-71214r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71214 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH HONDURAS. Cent, 1916-H. Birmingham (Heaton) Mint. George V. NGC MS-64 Brown. An endearing coin, this example demonstrates a rich eye appeal, with soft luster throughout and charming chocolate brown toning." This type was struck 1914-19, 1924-26 and 1936 and is rather scarce, especially in nice condition. The country, long claimed by Guatemala, is now known as Belize. The issues of British Honduras are marked by their dull design; the reverse on this coin was used during the reigns of queen Victoria, kings Edward VII, George V, George VI and later queen Elizabeth II.

Recorded mintage: 125,000, a fairly common date.

Specification: bronze.

Catalog reference: KM-19.
