Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 21055
SB0123-21055r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21055 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH HONDURAS. Cent, 1924. London Mint. George V. NGC PROOF-64 Brown. A RARE offering in proof that is made all the more desirable on account of its near-Gem state of preservation, this elegant specimen dazzles with a great mirroring to the surfaces and a deep brown nature to the color, even presenting some hints of cobalt near the central areas." This type was struck 1914-19, 1924-26 and 1936 and is rather scarce, especially in nice condition. This is the only coin issued for British Honduras in 1924. The country, long claimed by Guatemala, is now known as Belize. The issues of British Honduras are marked by their dull design; the reverse on this coin was used during the reigns of queen Victoria, kings Edward VII, George V, George VI and later queen Elizabeth II.

Recorded mintage: 50,000.

Specification: bronze.

Catalog reference: KM-19; Prid-58.
