This specimen was lot 13077 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $2,291. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH HONDURAS. 50 Cents, 1894. NGC AU-58. Very attractive toning. From the Demarete Collection." This four year type is not rare in circulated condition but the proofs are rare. This is the most common of the four known dates (1894, 1895, 1897, 1901).
Recorded mintage: 38,000 plus 25 proofs.
Specification: 11.62 g, 0.925 fine silver.
